Sport Climbing

Sport climbing is similar to indoor climbing. As you lead you clip bolts (Fixed protection that has been pre placed in the rock) to protect against a fall. As you lead up you attach a quick-draw to the bolt then clip your rope in.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Top Rope Set Ups – 1 Day 
This course will give you all the skills you need to get outside climbing. It is ideal for anyone who wants to top rope outside or for parents who want to take their kids out climbing on real rock.
Prerequisites – None

  • Intro to outdoor climbing gear
  • Anchor selection and testing
  • Different Top Rope systems
  • Equalizing anchors
  • Climbing knots
  • Keeping your self safe at the top of the crag
  • Top rope belaying
  • Safe guarding climbers
  • The difference between outdoor and indoor climbing movement
  • Guide book interpretation
  • Crag etiquette

Intro to Sport Climbing – 1 Day 
This course is designed to make you a sport climber
Prerequisites – Have some climbing experience

  • Intro to outdoor sport climbing gear
  • Bolt identification
  • Testing bolts and identify poor bolts
  • Re-threading a variety of different lower off’s
  • Specific outdoor climbing movement
  • Outdoor sport climbing lead belaying and the difference from indoor
  • Lead climbing
  • Clipping bolts
  • Safe guarding
  • Retreating from routes
  • Avoiding the common sport climbing mistakes
  • Guide book interpretation
  • Crag etiquette

Sport Climbing Improvers 
In this course you will learn all the tricks and techniques to push your sport climbing to the next level

  • Gear inspection
  • Climbing technique
  • Rock types
  • Falling techniques
  • Equipping routes
  • Efficient / improved clipping
  • Pink pointing, red pointing, dogging
