Scrambling

Are you an avid hill walker and want to start heading onto steeper ground, or an indoor climber that wants to get out on some easy rock? These scrambling courses will give you everything you need to get you going or add onto the skills you already have. The duration of the course will depend on your prior knowledge and experience.

Newbie 
Introduction to scrambling
Prerequisites – Ability to walk

  • Difference between scrambling and soloing
  • Anchors
  • Guide book interpretation
  • Body belaying
  • Direct Belays

Intermediate 
To become a confident scrambler.
Prerequisites – Some climbing experience

  • Intro to gear
  • Basic climbing movement
  • Route choice
  • Use of a rope
  • Gear placement
  • Building belays
  • Selecting anchors
  • Direct anchors
  • Pitching, Moving together, Spotting / body belaying, Soloing
  • Guide book interpretation

Experienced 
To become a scrambling guru.
Prerequisites – Some scrambling experience

  • Gear inspection
  • Climbing technique
  • Rock types
  • Efficient / improved gear placement
  • Building better belays
  • Becoming fast and efficient
  • Scrambling tactics
  • Retreating
