Development Coach

When you register for the Foundation Coach training Mountain Training automatically register you onto the Development Coach.

This is what you need to do before you attend your Development Coach training course

• You need to have completed your Foundation Coach training or been granted exemption
• You need to have attended a FUNdamentals of Climbing 2 workshop
• You must be appropriately experienced and qualified to supervise safe sessions in the environment in which you choose to coach

The Developemnt Coach training course is 2 days and is mixture of practical and theory based sessions. We will work through the Development Coach syllabus looking at starting you on your journey to becoming a qualified climbing development coach.

This is the period between your training and assessment. During this time you should consolidate and practice everything you’ve learned during your training. Variety is key, every opportunity should be taken to encourage exploration and ideally practice, the skills learned during training

Development Coach assessments are bespoke and are not listed on the Mountain Training website. If you would like to book your assessment please contact me to discus what assessment plan works for you.

Development Coach assessments consist of a thorough review of your logged coaching experience, an evaluation of session planning with structured progression over a number of sessions, and a written paper.

Practical assessments are usually run with two candidates being assessed on the same day. You will run a coaching session with your long term students and then swap students with the other candidate to run a session with their students.

This is what you need to have before you attend your Development Coach assessment

• At least 18 years old.
• Attended a Development Coach training course.
• Be familiar with the syllabus.
• Have your DLOG up to date with your climbing coaching experience to include a minimum of 40 coaching sessions since attending training
• You need to have personal reflective comments on your coaching sessions
• You must have prepared a number of progressive session plans for your long term students
• Complete a home paper
